Today everyone's good roots and Bodhi shoots have sprouted. To take refuge with the Triple Jewel is to be born with your eyes open. Don't go down the wrong road. What is meant by being born with your eyes open? It means you start a new life with your eyes open. You must find the right path. You must recognize clearly: Why am I taking refuge? Why do I want to take refuge with the Triple Jewel? This is an important moment.
오늘은 모든 사람의 선근과 보리의 싹이 텄습니다. 삼보에 귀의하는 것은 눈을 뜨고 태어나는 것입니다. 잘못된 길로 가지 마세요. 눈을 뜨고 태어난다는 것은 무엇을 의미하나요? 그것은 당신이 눈을 뜨고 새로운 삶을 시작한다는 것을 의미합니다. 당신은 올바른 길을 찾아야 합니다. 다음 사항을 명확히 인식해야 합니다. 내가 왜 귀의를 합니까? 왜 내가 삼보에 귀의하고자 합니까? 지금은 중요한 순간입니다.
Don't let it be that you take refuge just because others are taking refuge, or that you bow to the Buddha just because others are bowing to the Buddha! Just what exactly is taking refuge with the Triple Jewel?

What is bowing to the Buddha all about?
"I don't know!"
You come to take refuge not knowing any of these things. Isn't that just blindly cultivating and blindly practicing? Isn't that just following blindly? You should open your eyes; recognize the road clearly; and go straight down the path
courageously, without retreating.
남들이 귀의한다고 해서 귀의하는 것도 아니고, 남들이 부처님께 절한다고 해서 절하는 것도 아닙니다! 정확히 삼보에 귀의하는 것이 무엇입니까?
"모르겠어요!"
부처님께 절하는 것은 무엇에 관한 것일까요?
"모르겠어요!"
이런 것도 모르고 귀의하게 됩니다. 그것은 맹목적으로 수행하는 것 아닙니까? 그냥 맹목적으로 따라가는 것 아닙니까? 눈을 뜨고, 길을 똑똑히 인식하고, 물러나지 않고 용감하게 길을 따라 곧장 내려가야 합니다.
Now is the Dharma-ending Age. What is meant by the end of the Dharma? It means the demise of the Buddhadharma. The Dharma is already coming to its end, and it will soon disappear entirely. The Buddhadharma is already in its autumn. The sun is about to set and the road ahead is already dim. There's not much hope. But it's right at this time that we must bring forth our vigor and courage to move forward and rush down the path so that we can reach our destination. This is the general meaning of taking refuge with the Triple Jewel.
지금은 말법 시대입니다. 말법은 무엇을 의미하나요? 그것은 불법의 종말을 의미합니다. 법은 이미 종말을 고하고 있으며, 곧 완전히 사라질 것입니다. 불법은 이미 가을로 접어들었습니다. 해가 지려고 하는데 앞길이 벌써 어둑어둑합니다. 희망이 별로 없습니다. 그러나 우리가 목적지에 도달할 수 있도록 앞으로 나아가고 그 길을 달려갈 활력과 용기를 발휘해야 하는 것이 바로 이 때입니다. 이것이 삼보에 귀의하는 일반적인 의미입니다.
Today there are many people with deep good roots who are taking refuge with the Triple Jewel. Some are transformation bodies of Bodhisattvas who have come to take refuge. Some are transformation bodies of gods. dragons, and others in the eightfold division who have come to take refuge. Some are human beings who have come to take refuge. There are even ghosts and spirits who have come to take refuge. This is the first time that the Three Refuges have been transmitted at the City of the Dharma Realm. The Ceremony for Taking Refuge is particularly magnificent. The heavenly Dharma-protectors, the gods, dragons, and others of the eightfold division of ghosts and spirits are filling up the space around us. They have come to protect this Way-place. Whatever wishes any of you are making about the future will be completely known by these Dharmaprotectors and good spirits. Each of you should urge yourself on.
오늘날에는 삼보에 귀의하는 선근을 가진 사람들이 많이 있습니다. 일부는 귀의하러 온 보살들의 화신입니다. 어떤 이는 신과 용들의 화신이고, 어떤 이는 귀의하러 온 팔부신장입니다. 귀의하러 온 인간도 있습니다. 심지어 귀의하러 온 귀신들도 있습니다. 법계성에서 삼귀의를 전수한 것은 이번이 처음입니다. 귀의식은 특히 웅장합니다. 천상의 호법, 신, 용, 팔부신장들이 우리 주변의 공간을 가득 채우고 있습니다. 그들은 이 도량을 지키러 왔습니다. 여러분 중 누군가가 미래에 대해 바라는 것이 무엇이든지간에 이 호법과 선신들은 완전히 알 것입니다. 여러분 각자는 스스로 노력해야 합니다.
I have made a little vow, which is that whoever takes refuge with me or does not take refuge with me, whoever believes in the Buddha or believes in other religions, as long as they have not become Buddhas-I will wait for them to become Buddhas before I do.
You should go forward with courageous vigor and not be lazy. Don't steal off to take it easy: don't shirk toil and crave the soft life. You must change your bad habits to good ones: change your faults and renew yourself. Go forward on the path to Bodhi with courage and vigor. Don't make me wait for all of you too long! If I have to wait too long, maybe I won't have the energy to keep waiting. Each of you should be like the general who never dismounts-just keep going forward.
나는 작은 서원을 세웠습니다. 나에게 귀의하거나 나에게 귀의하지 않거나 부처님을 믿거나 다른 종교를 믿거나 누구든지, 그들이 부처가 되지 않는 한, 나는 그들이 부처가 되기를 기다릴 것입니다.
여러분은 용감하게 앞으로 나아가야 하고 게을러서는 안 됩니다. 긴장을 풀기 위해 몰래 도망가지 마세요: 일을 피하고 부드러운 삶을 갈망하지 마세요. 나쁜 습관을 좋은 습관으로 바꿔야 합니다. 잘못을 고치고 자신을 새롭게 해야 합니다. 용기와 활력을 가지고 보리도로 나아가십시오. 여러분 모두를 너무 오래 기다리게 하지 마세요! 너무 오래 기다려야 한다면, 아마 계속 기다릴 힘이 없을 거예요. 여러분 각자는 절대 내리지 않는 장군처럼 계속 앞으로 나아가야 합니다.
